Thanks again to our resident band, The Ashes, Ken on bass, Tom on percussion and Brendan on drums, and our new star on the sticks Margo (The Honeycombs (Honey Lantree) / Dave Clarke Five). Brian Belshaw will be back soon – we’re in for a three way fight. Thanks to all those who lead on some of the numbers – Joy, Brendan, Mark, Dave D, Graham K, Trevor, Les B (Beautiful Dreamer – too fast!), Margo. Les Girls – (Elaine; Eunice; Joy; Margo; Diane and Sophie), and to David Brindley for his Runaway Train – took me back to Saturday mornings of my younger years with Uncle Mac. If you can also remember him, you’re old and decrepit too. If you weren’t there, we missed you and get well soon to Wendy, Eddie and Steve McG.
Terrific STARTIME and it’s thanks to
- The Bad BoyZone (Eric on lead, Ian; Elaine; Graham K; Sophie; Brian; Tom and Ken) with an anti-war song from the 60’s for Armistice Day – Last Night I Had The Strangest Dream, which I think is a Pete Seeger song.
- Les B with Rocking Alone (In An Old Rocking Chair) one made famous by the Everly Brothers, but composed by Hank Snow.
- Trevor with a superb version of Mr Bojangles – not an easy song to do so well. Originally written and recorded by American country music artist Jerry Jeff Walker, but famously performed by Sammy Davis Jr and Neil Diamond.
- Dave D – seriously interrupted by a secret lemonade drinker, with Rod Stewart’s Maggie May, some good uke work on this one.
Thanks to David Brindley for all the video work, creating a permanent record of what we do. I’m sure it’s appreciated, not only by our members, but all those who look us up worldwide. No wonder our waiting list is ever growing.
It’s Diane’s night at The Crown, New Springs this Thursday.
Next week it’s Dave and Lee Davies. Playlist later. Leader’s List attached.
Don’t forget our Christmas Party evening on 22nd December – The Two Grahams are leading – some Christmas songs were sent out earlier in the week. Eunice is doing well collecting the £2 per member for the catering. If you haven’t paid already, please do so as soon as you can, if you expect to be there. Eunice is also collecting unwanted Christmas decorations for the night, and if you have any items for us to do a raffle, please bring them along.
Look forward to seeing you all again next week.
