Thanks to this week’s Ashes. Brendan on drums, Ken on bass and Eddie on harmonica.
Thanks to the host of members who stood by the mic and lead on some of the numbers – Les B, Ernie, David B, Anne, Graham K, Frank, Graham P, Elaine, David S, Ian, Bernard, Diane, Eunice, Mark, Betty, Eddie, Martin (who was so good, Eric made him sing the song twice), Steve G, meself, Donna, Ken , Lee, Joe, Brendan, Tommy, Steve McG, Dave D, Brian, Trevor and Eric.
Not entirely fully prepared, but nonetheless a very good STARTIME, so thanks to
- David Brindley with a Gracie Fields number from sometime in the 1940’s “I Took My Harp To A Party (but nobody asked me to play). Accompanied on a harpolele !!!
- Joe with Dave D sang a Charlie Walker song “Pick Me up On Your Way Down” (1965). Not as advertised “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go”. Wouldn’t be sure which one was Andrew Ridgley and which one was George Michael.
- Trevor sang (again !) Mr Bojangles, which I always associate with Sammy Davis Jr (1989), although it was first recorded some twenty years earlier. Great song and excellent ukulele work.
- Dave D gave us (again !) Hal Ketchum’s “Pass The Point Of Rescue” (1991). Still a good song.
Next week for St Patrick’s Day it’s Irish Night – so shamrocks and the wearing of the green for all. I won’t be there unfortunately (for me at least), no sandwiches but hopefully plenty of cake.
The week after it’s Dave and Lee.
