Thanks to Brian on drums, Eddie on harmonica and the multi-talented Tom on bass.
Thanks to those who lead on some of the numbers – Les B; Mark; Ernie; Brendan; Donna, Betty, Eunice, Anne and Diane gave us the Baby Face Medley (non-male gender fluid version), Eddie, Don, Dave S, Les H and Eddie were going to take a Ferry across the Mersey until Les split his drink and Eddie had to sail single-handed, whilst Les swabbed the decks. Joe walked his baby back home. On this one, Dave advised that it was a Cmaj7, Am, C, Am progression all the way through, except when it wasn’t. And to be honest, it wasn’t. Jo, Graham K. Jo, Mary and Dave had their blue eyes crying in the rain. Mary wasn’t too keen on getting up, but did extremely well, and has offered to do Hot Stuff and Wig Wam Bam next time. Brendan sang Lucille in place of Don. What a pity Don had left early! Brendan, Trevor and Dave made a mashup of the Rock a Billy Mashup.
A varied and entertaining STARTIME, with a couple of numbers new to me and most.
- Les H gave us The Moody Blues’ Say It With Love, the lead single from their 1991 album Keys of the Kingdom. Must say it had a bit of a RS feel to it.
- Les B sang Claude King’s 1962 Wolverton Mountain. Not to be confused with Wolverine Mountain, which is a Hugh Jackman song. Clinton Clowers was apparently a real person, and the location is in Arkansas. Clinton was visited on his 100th birthday by the co-writers of the song. He died aged 102 in 1994.
- Trevor gave us Sailor’s Girls, Girls, Girls. The song was no 7 in the UK charts in 1975. The song Glass of Champagne earlier in the year did somewhat better reaching no 2.
- Joe with Dave sang I Am Blue. I wish I’d taken a few more notes, because this is a lovely song and one I hadn’t heard before and cannot find any details for.
Trevor is still looking for members to advise of numbers for his next duets evening on 27 Feb, and Donna is looking for tunes for the Olde Tyme Music Hall session on 27 March.
Next week it’s the turn of Joe and Elaine. Some good stuff coming up here, set list later.
Nice to see Eric back amongst us after his battle with the lurgy. Hope to see Brian again soon after his foot infection, which has made him go limp, nasty that !!.And our very best wishes go to Carole for her coming op, we trust all goes well, and hope to see both her and Brian in the not too distant future, fit and well.
