Thanks to Les Harris for leading this evening’s session and also to this week’s Ashes – Brendan on drums Ken on bass, Tom on percussion and Eddie on harmonica.
Thanks to this week’s soloists who lead on some of the songs – Eddie, Al , Carole, Steve McG, Bernard, Brendan,Les B, Joe, Ernie, Dave D and Tommy – also to Eunice, Diane, Donna, Carole and Anne, who couldn’t keep their eyes off of us.
Some fine performances on this week’s STARTIME, so thanks to
- Eddie who gave us Charlie Landborough’s I Will Love You All My Life. Although he looks very US country, Charlie was born in Birkenhead, the youngest of 11 children and began his working life as a teacher. His old headmaster said of him, “he would have had a brilliant career ahead of him, until that blasted banjo got in the way”.
- Carole sang The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down. Written in 1969 and originally recorded by the American roots rock group The Band, the song is most famously remembered for the Joan Baez 1971 cover
- Dave D sang Buddy Holly’s Everyday. Written by Buddy Holly (as Charles Hardin Holley) and producer Norman Petty, the song was released in 1957
- Mark gave us The Beatles All My Loving, written by Paul McCartney on featured on the album With The Beatles 1963. The song was never released as a single in the UK.
This Thursday is Diane and Dave’s session at the Crown New Springs.
