A really great night organised by the Flower Power of Dave and Lee Davies or was it Bill and Ben? Excellent selection of songs again and flawlessly presented.
Thanks to our residence Band this week – Brendan on drums, Eddie on harmonica, Tom on percussion and Brian on bass.
Thanks also to those who lead on some of the tunes (when Dave would let you !) – Les B, Brian Belshaw, Mark, Ernie, Joe, Eddie, Brendan, Carole, David “Dave” Sloan, Donna. Back in the front seat again Joe with his harem – seven little girls –Donna, Anne, Carole, Betty, Diane, Elaine and Eunice. Great stuff.
Excellent and varied STARTIME, our thanks to:
- Les B who gave us another Johnny Horton Alaska song – When It’s Spring Time in Alaska (It’s 40 below) (1959). Horton also had a hit with North To Alaska, and The Battle of New Orleans.
- Eddie gave us an Irish them with the Furey’s and Celtic Thunder song Down At The Red Rose Café. The song was originally of Dutch origin in 1975, and translation have been done by many The Little Café By The Harbour by Engelbert Humperdinck.
- Joe (accompanied, from differing parts of the room by Dave D and Brian on bass) sang Jerry Herman’s Mame, from the musical of the same name first performed in 1966.
- Dave D rounded things off with an excellent version of Jimmy Witherspoon’s Since I Fell For You.
Next week it’s Les H (if he’s well enough) and me. Set List later.
There is a change to the Leaders' List on 14th March when the ladies are organising a
