Full resident band this week – Brendan on drums (sometimes Brian); Tom on percussion, Eddie on harmonica and KEN ON BASS – in bold because he wasn’t mentioned in the thanks last evening, so I thought I’d big him up. Thanks to the many soloists on most numbers – Tommy; Dave D; Trevor; Mark; Brendan; Al; Eddie; Graham P; Joy; Les B; Carole and Brian Belshaw. Nice to have included “Lying Eyes” as a tribute to Glenn Frey (Eagles lead guitarist and singer).
Joy and Carole gave us a fine version of Mamma Mia, first time out for that one, and Joy and Les B a lovely rendition of Burl ives’ Pearly Shells. English words to an old Hawaiian tune.
Brilliant STARTIME. (video now available)
- Al Cross gave us Jose Feliciano’s Light My Fire
- Les B gave us Bill (James William Anderson III) Anderson’s Happy Birthday to Me. One of Whisperin’ Bill’s lesser known songs, he has had 19 songs in the top five of the Country charts (hard to believe) – so a lot more for Les to treat us to !
- Dave D gave us The Verve’s The Drugs Don’t Work, written by Richard Ashcroft (1997)
- Joy and Graham P gave us Danny Whitten’s I Don’t Wanna Talk About It, first recorded by his group Crazy Horse in 1971, but more famously known by the Rod Stewart cover version (1977)
Next Week – it’s Eric Lilley and Brian Brittain with a Beatle’s Evening. Set List later.
